Rules

FictionWritersBlog.com filters content while keeping an open mind when it comes to user submissions. However, there is an inherent responsibility that falls to writers as a result. Here is a list of rules that should always be observed:

  1. Grammar and Spelling are your friends. Check every submission you send in…and do it more than once. That helps make our job easier and makes you look better.
  2. Give feedback. Everyone started out not knowing what to do. And some of us are still at that stage! So give feedback as much and as often as you can. But be tactful! Instead of saying, “This is the worst thing I have ever read!” Try saying, “I just couldn’t follow the flow and got lost.”
  3. Graciously receive feedback-regardless of tone. You know by now that not everyone who reads your work will love it so much they print it out and hang it on the fridge. So, when a Negative Nelly leaves a comment on your work that is less than stellar, remember that Nelly’s just one person. Also remember that if your submission passed our testing and got posted, that’s all that matters!
  4. Have fun! That’s self-explanatory.

Content Guidelines

Dated: Nov 9, 2009

Content we do not allow:

  1. One or two liners.
  2. Chat/script format and keyboard dialogue based entries.
  3. Polls or lists. We want work of fiction, not interactivity…unless there’s a challenge or contest.

Actions not allowed:

  1. Multiple posting of the same piece. If you submit a story more than once and it’s caught, you may be subject to being banned.
  2. Making minor tweaks to a story (changing names, locations, titles, etc.) so that the work can be reposted.
  3. Plagiarism of any kind and to any degree.

Submission Rules

  1. Entry submission should feature the following at the beginning (though this information may not be published):
    • Title
    • Rating
    • Author Name
    • Notice to reader: (such as “violence”, “sexual situations”, “drug use”, etc.)
    • Notice to Editor: (ex: “This is part 1 of the story”, “I have misspelled words in the piece for a reason”, etc.)
  2. Entry must be given the proper rating (if you don’t know which rating to give it, round up – meaning that if you’re waffling between “PG” and “R”, give it an “R”). No exceptions.
  3. Each submission must be submitted via email to: editor@fictionwritersblog[dot]com. Please put “Submission” in the Subject line.
  4. Each entry must be sent as an attachment and should be one of the following file types: .doc, .txt, or .pdf.

Failure to comply with site rules will result

in the removal of stories and/or suspension.
